White bumps on the skin - Milia

These tiny white pearlish bumps on the face, commonly found under the eye or on the cheeks and can occur at any age. They are called - milia. They are not pimples nor acne. They are formed when dead skin cells get trapped in small pockets at the surface of the skin.

Some will disappear spontaneously after a few weeks, others may require treatment by the doctor. The doctor may lance them, prescribe a topical retinol cream or perform microdermabrasion procedures to get rid of them.

Do not try to remove them on your own as it can lead to infection if not done properly.

Using less thick facial products, avoiding creams that cause the milia breakout, protecting the skin from sun exposure and gentle exfoliation may help to reduce milia.
